The son of a decorated career Army officer, Tom followed in his father’s footsteps with two combat tours in Vietnam. He also played operational roles in Europe during the height of the Cold War, trained the Army’s next generation of leaders, and liaised with Hollywood studios on films involving Army stories.
Manny served on a diesel-powered submarine, the USS Grouper (SSK-214), from 1957–60. His story provides a vivid account of what life on a submarine was like for a young sailor, from NATO exercises in Europe to port visits in places like Havana, Cuba. After his enlistment, Manny used what he learned in the Navy to build a successful speaking and consulting career.
