Welcome to Episode 52 of the Voices to Veterans podcast. This episode features the story of Electrician’s Mate Third Class Lyman K. “Manny” Steil, U.S. Navy.

Manny served on a diesel-powered submarine, the USS Grouper (SSK-214), from 1957–60. His story provides a vivid account of what life on a submarine was like for a young sailor, from NATO exercises in Europe to port visits in places like Havana, Cuba. After his enlistment, Manny used what he learned in the Navy to build a successful speaking and consulting career.
