Welcome to Episode 43 of the Voices to Veterans podcast. This episode features the story of Sergeant Jim Elsener, U.S. Marine Corps.

Jim served in the Marines from 1962–66. When offered the choice of serving out the rest of his enlistment at Camp Lejeune or going to Vietnam in 1966, Jim’s sense of duty compelled him to choose Vietnam. There Jim served as a radio operator with the 1st 8-inch Howitzer Battery of the 12th Marines. After the Marines, he became a successful journalist and author.
