Episode 41 – Petty Officer Third Class Eugene Walker, U.S. Navy
Welcome to Episode 41 of the Voices to Veterans podcast. This episode features the story of Petty Officer Third Class Eugene Walker, U.S. Navy.
Gene served in the Navy from 1963 to 1967, first on Kodiak Island, Alaska, and then onboard USS Chevalier (DD-805). He sailed on Chevalier up the Saigon River, where the ship provided gunfire support to allied troops ashore during the Vietnam War. Gene tells a great story about a chance encounter with one of his heroes in a barber shop on Naval Station Treasure Island. It was a meeting Gene will never forget.
