You are a dear friend and I so enjoyed reading your story. They did leave out our pony escapades at the Summon horse show grounds. Those are some my treasured memories too. Come visit us soon!

    Enjoyed Gene’s story.

I began my 37-year career with the State of Illinois in 1979, working for the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner, I opened the first Respiratory Department at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. Per the request of Director Jack Dack, I assisted in establishing a similar Respiratory Services Department in Iowa City to treat veterans from Iowa. As I was in charge of the Respiratory Service, I initiated several programs to improve the lives of Illinois veterans who were living, at the time, in the only Veterans’ Home in Illinois. I opened my home as a place where veterans and their families could visit. I also hosted several barbecues at my home and have many fond memories working with Veterans who became dear friends.
